Minorities and Muisc: The Trends

I called it. Seven years ago, I called it that dance/electronica music
was on the rise on the coattails of the hip-hop nation. My peers
disbelieved me. With the recent releases of smash hit collaborations
with David Guetta and Kelly Rowland, Will.I.Am, Akon, etc as well as the
very unexpected Three Six Mafia and Tiesto, there is no questioning the
transition from hip-hop to dance is now. Western Europe is always a bit
ahead of the game in pop-culture trends and they've been embracing
dance music in a major way for quite some time. Now hip-hop and dance
music are somewhat of the great divide in hetero/homo culture. Don't
preach to me about stereotypes you pompous bitch. Stereotypes exist
based in truth. So we have black music fading into gay music and what came before and growing more prevalent everyday? A female dominated music industry. A majority of the hits right
now feature a powerful female singer: Our Lady, Beyonce, Taylor Swift,
Rihanna, and. Right there on the first 10 songs of today's BillBoard Top 100, you cannot deny that its the truth. Female, hip-hop, and dance (gay.)
While this may not be new to you and hardly profound information, there is a curious observation to be made. Where else in history can you see the progression? Rights movements. In the last century, we have seen this same order of people who campaigned for their rights in America. Women's suffrage came full circle in 1920, Dr. King and Malcolm X led the civil rights movement of the 60's, and now the LGBT community is fighting for their own rights and each group is dominating the music industry of today. And what group is next in cue? Latin America. And they are already making their mark in American music and starting to fight for their own humanity in a country with the history of white males thinking they are the only worthy human beings. Just right there on #5 is Usher/featuring Pitbull, while Shakira, Ricky Martin, and Enrique Iglesias have already made strides for Latin music in America.
Over and Out,
